Some months ago I was introduced to one of the greatest current talents in music and was immediately hooked. As soon as the opening synth line hit my car speakers I knew that Dreamer Boy would be a star and after what seems like an eternity later, he has finally blessed us with the “Falling for the Wrong One” visual, days after the track eclipsed one-million streams on Spotify.
Filmed in Joshua Tree National Park by Adam Alonzo and accompanied by his producer, Bobby Knepper (or, cleverly, Dreamer Bob), Dreamer Boy whimsically bounces around the California desert, exhibiting all the beautiful carefree elements of youthful spirit, and demonstrating why he is one of the only people that I can say are truly high off life.
The peaceful instrumental carried by a simple, but upbeat drum pattern with trancey synths, subtle guitar riffs, and his own ethereal vocals underneath the lyrics of this track set the stage for peaceful exploration of teenage emotion. The complete product is a heavenly melody, perfectly capable of being its own product altogether.
His singing is perfectly gentle and keeps total tranquility for the duration of the record. He unpacks teenage romance and is the lyrical content is a fitting synecdoche for all lovesick wandering kids searching for what makes them happiest. I am enthralled by this record and am itching to hear more from Dreamer Boy in the near future.
Be on the lookout for the Dreamer Boy merch dropping soon and his debut album “Love, Nostalgia” releasing on vinyl in the near future.
